Apologies to those who’ve been receiving newsletters regularly – you know it’s 3 months late! One of the reasons for the delay is I’ve been working on a new recording of my songs. Now the CD is available, entitled “Turn the page”, it made sense to combine publicity about this with other news for prayer.
MUSIC
You’ll find, with this newsletter, details of my latest musical release and information on how to order copies. “Turn the page” features 7 new songs and re recordings of 4 earlier favourites. I’m particularly pleased with the way it came together, helping me to present what I consider to be a truly representative definition of my ongoing music ministry. Other musical activities in recent months include leading worship at conferences & joint church events, input to the All Age worship team at Spring Harvest, sharing my songs at outdoor events, community lunches and local bars. Music is a great common denominator in communicating good news to a variety of people.
CROWN
CROWN Community Church continues to grow, being both encouraging and challenging. New families and individuals are coming, bringing with them the joys and complexities of life. Notable features of the past 9 months include well attended and imaginative Christmas & Easter events, work parties to help people in need, developments in the use of musicians in our worship, a CROWN stall at a local primary school fair, picnics, prayer walks and a busy but rewarding weekend for children and their parents / workers combining a seminar, praise party and buffet outreach with thought provoking drama and music. Our desire is to see people begin a journey of relationship with God and then make progress.
OTHER
I’ve taken on a local prayer and praise initiative called “Ignite” encouraging folks from different churches to intercede for the area. Numbers have been modest but a real heart for prayer is being stirred. Also, visits to a local retirement home, school assemblies, leader’s lunches and help with “HOPE ‘08” events have all been significant in terms of Kingdom work.
Mentoring a young man from another church is a humbling privilege. Taking a funeral for an old lady who’d lived in poverty was a moving occasion. I have regular input to other churches to share in their teaching and outreach.
All this makes for a varied and busy life which is most enriching but can also be draining. “Those who put their hope in the Lord will renew their strength”. Use DIARY DATES with this letter to pray that “renewed strength” would be experienced daily in all of the above.
FAMILY
It’s all new jobs!! Helen’s career in out of school care starts a new phase soon. Nicola enjoys her new job in Warwick. David, having got his degree, just started work in a bank in Winchester. (Nicola & David both sing on the new CD). Jo gave birth to our second grandchild, Isobel, five months ago so she also has a new job on her hands! We all value your prayers.
